Patients' lives put at risk by using ‘bargain basement’ vehicles ambulances, union charges
by our Industrial reporter @TrinderMatt
THE South East Ambulance Service (Secamb) was accused today of putting patients’ lives at risk by using “bargain basement” vehicles that could cause “catastrophic” injuries including decapitation.
Safety reps from the GMB union said that Fiat vehicles, which the service operates alongside its traditional fleet, have a significant safety flaw.
They warned that, because the seat position has been changed, staff and patients cannot place the seat belt correctly across their collar bone and shoulder.
