Union launches industrial action ballots at nine Tesco distribution centres in disputes over pay

RETAIL union Usdaw launched industrial action ballots at nine Tesco distribution sites today after members overwhelmingly rejected the supermarket’s latest pay offer.

The ballots, which will close on December 6, involve workers at sites in Daventry, Goole, Hinckley, Lichfield, Livingston, Peterborough and Southampton as well as two locations at Magor in south Wales.

If members back walkouts, strike action will take place in the week before Christmas, Usdaw warned.

A Tesco spokesperson said the firm was disappointed by the ballot, claiming bosses had “put forward a fair and competitive pay offer.”
