Usdaw demands £10 minimum wage and end to ‘rip-off’ youth rates

THE government must offer workers a minimum wage of at least £10 and an end to rip-off youth rates, shopworkers’ union Usdaw urged today.

Giving evidence to the Low Pay Commission (LPC), the union’s new deal for workers also demands better sick pay for all workers, protection at work and a “proper” social security system to replace universal credit.

Usdaw general secretary Paddy Lillis said: “Workers in retail, distribution and many other low-paid industries have shown just how vital they are to keeping the UK economy going during a time of extreme pressure.
