TRANSPORT union TSSA welcomed a new pay offer from Balfour Beatty yesterday after workers overwhelming backed strike action over a pay freeze during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The construction giant’s offer, made to TSSA members working on track renewals and maintenance in the Central Rail Systems Alliance, includes backdated pay rises of 2 per cent from April 2020 and 1.5 per cent from last month.
TSSA said it marks a significant improvement on Balfour Beatty’s 2020 proposal, which would have seen workers receive no wage increase — despite the company making close to £50 million profit last year and awarding senior managers £2 million bonuses.
