Asylum-seekers living in hotels during pandemic subjected to ‘dehumanising treatment,’ report reveals
Activists from Stand Up to Racism hold a demonstration outside the Home Office's Glasgow Immigration Enforcement Reporting Centre to demand change and the end of hotel detention of refugees

ASYLUM-SEEKERS living in hotels during the pandemic have been subjected to “dehumanising treatment,” with many lacking proper food, shoes and clothing, a damning report has revealed.

The Refugee Council, which published the report today, said it was “deeply concerned” by findings that people had been confined to their rooms for days while waiting for their one set of clothes to be washed.

The charity said it has worked with hundreds of asylum-seekers staying in hotels where conditions have led to a decline in mental health, including self-harm and suicidal thoughts.
