US military releases footage purportedly showing the killing of Isis leader al-Baghdadi
US Central Command Commander Marine General Kenneth McKenzie speaks to press about the killing of Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

FOOTAGE purporting to show the raid in northern Syria in which Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi died was released by the US military yesterday as more details emerged about his demise.

Grainy video appears to show US forces in a shoot-out with jihadists who were protecting a compound where Mr Baghdadi was hiding.

Washington claims the Isis leader fled into a tunnel, killing himself and two children after he detonated a suicide vest to prevent being captured alive.
