GMB pledges to fight for jobs at Caerphilly auto plant

THE GMB union has pledged to “pull every lever available” to save 220 skilled jobs under threat at the Kautex Textron automotive plant in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly.

The company has issued redundancy notices and announced the possible closure of the site, which has made parts for the motor industry for more than half a century, blaming a downturn in sales on Covid-19 and the complexities of Brexit.

GMB is in talks with the firm and has sought the help of the Welsh government, which said it was “working with the company to explore potential solutions to help sustain the plant.”
