Stand Up To Racism prepare weekend of mobilisations against the far right

CAMPAIGNERS, trade unionists and members of the public are set to mobilise against the far right this weekend.

The action comes after a surge of Islamophobic and racist violence gripped the nation after the fascists exploited the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport to incite riots.

The unrest saw rioters attempt to murder refugees in asylum hotels in Rotherham and Tamworth by trying to set the buildings ablaze, and the targeting of mosques and immigration centres across the country.

Thousands took to the street last week in defiance, and now as far-right mobilisations continue to circulate on social media, Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) has called for counter-protests in Dover, Portsmouth, Liverpool, Birmingham, Taunton and Bournemouth.

Stand Up to Racism has called the protests to encourage anti-fascists to use the momentum over the last week to try and stop the far right in its tracks.

The group will also launch a new campaign to stop the far right in Hackney tomorrow, which will see Drag Race star Bimini Bon Boulash, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, NEU general secretary Daniel Kebede and journalist Owen Jones attend.

SUTR co-convener Weyman Bennett said: “The last week has shown we can beat the far right.

“And it has been done through people organising and protesting up and down the country. We have to continue that this weekend.

“The far right threat won’t go away unless we stop them. It is being whipped up by Nigel Farage and Elon Musk.”

Fellow SUTR co-convener Sabby Dhalu said: “Across Britain people have said loudly and clearly that we reject racism, Islamophobia, anti-semitism and hatred.

“We will not stand by and allow racist, pogromist attacks on asylum-seekers, Muslim, African, Asian and Caribbean people.

“All these communities, alongside trade unions, anti-fascists and anti-racists united have stood up to racism and fascism.

“We have defeated fascist and racist movements before. We will defeat them again. But there’s no room for complacency.

“We’ve seen fascist riots for over a week. We will keep mobilising until we push back these racist and fascist street thugs.”

Stand Up to Racism’s Stop The Far Right: Emergency Campaign and Fundraiser will take place at 5pm at Earth Kitchen, 13 Stoke Newington Road N16 8BH.
