A FORMER general secretary of the Transport and General Workers’ Union (TGWU) and Unite turned down the offer of a seat in the House of Lords today.
The peerage was offered to left-winger Tony Woodley by Jeremy Corbyn before he lost the leadership of the Labour Party last year.
Mr Woodley was general secretary of the TGWU from 2004 until 2007, before becoming joint leader of Unite when the union merged with Amicus. He stepped down from the role in 2011.
