Cuba Solidarity Campaign slams US attempt to sabotage medical brigades
Cubans work through Havana wearing masks to protect from Covid-19 this week

THE Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) has called on Britain and other countries to stand up to “bully-boy tactics” from the United States trying to sabotage Cuban medical brigades.

A new Bill introduced in the US by Republican senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz would classify Cuban doctors providing medical assistance to other countries as victims of human trafficking, and slap sanctions on host states.

“Such threats to humanitarian assistance from one country to another are an affront to people across the globe, and particularly repugnant during an international health pandemic,” a CSC statement says.

It notes that more than 30 countries have requested and received medical help from Cuba in the fight against Covid-19 and that more than 2,000 Cuban health professionals have treated people suffering from the virus in other countries, including in British overseas territories.

CSC director Rob Miller said the proposed legislation was “a clear and outrageous attempt to use US power to threaten smaller countries” and welcomed the fact that Britain, France and Italy had all co-operated with Cuban medical brigades.
