ANTI-CHINA protesters set fire to bridges leading to Hong Kong Polytechnic University today as they sought to prevent police from advancing on them there.
Those occupying the university drove off cleaners attempting to clear the roads around it and lobbed petrol bombs at police who sprayed tear gas and blue-tinted water at them.
One police officer was taken to hospital after being hit by an arrow fired by a protester, some of whom have taken up bows and arrows as the latest weapon in their five-month campaign against the city authorities, sparked originally by an extradition Bill that has now been dropped by the territory’s legislative council.
