If sex work is work, all sex is work
THAIN PARNELL takes issue with Teen Vogue advocating the full decriminalisation of prostitution

THE false logic that sex can be subsumed into the capitalist extraction of labour when it suits is a hypocritical one, the dividing lines are too hard to discern.

An April 2019 article in Teen Vogue entitled Why Sex Work is Real Work argued for the full decriminalisation model for prostitution, which would enable exploitative pimps and Johns to trade women’s bodies with impunity.

Due to pernicious campaigning attempts on behalf of various pro-sex trade lobby groups, this stance is also a position backed up by the International Labour Organisation, a specialist agency of the United Nations.
