Protesters to gather outside Russian embassy to demand withdrawal from Ukraine

PROTESTERS will gather outside the Russian embassy in London tomorrow to demand troops withdraw from Ukraine.

The action is organised by Ukraine Solidarity Campaign and supported by campaign groups and unions, including Aslef, GMB, PCS and Unison.

MP John McDonnell said he is joining the march to call for peace, “but a just peace determined by the Ukrainian people, not one imposed on them by [US President Donald] Trump and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”

It comes ahead of the third anniversary of the Russian invasion and after officials from the United States and Russia met without Ukraine to discuss a possible peace agreement.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will travel to the US next week to meet Mr Trump, with Ukraine on the agenda. But the US president dismissed the idea this would be useful, saying Mr Starmer “didn’t do anything” to end the war through years of conflict.

Writing in the Morning Star tomorrow, MP Diane Abbott said: “Instead of preparing for more war and ramping up both militaristic rhetoric and military spending, European countries should be preparing for peace, for rebuilding Ukraine, and repairing practical relations. Others are.”
