Human rights charity Rapar raises concerns over homeless people's camp in Manchester

HUMAN rights campaigners in Manchester have called for a round-table meeting with councillors and homeless people living in a camp which has repeatedly been moved on and dismantled only to be set up elsewhere in the city centre.

The camp, now in Albert Square, has about 40 residents, including refugees, moved around around since April last year.

Well-wishers have been providing camp residents with food and equipment.

Manchester-based Refugee and Asylum Participatory Action Research welcomed an invitation to meet council officers this week, but said camp residents should be included in the meeting.

“We believe people at the camp should be part of any discussion,” a spokesperson said.

The group said that the support being shown for camp residents was “a gesture of humanity that demonstrates the kindness and generosity of people in the local  communities.”
