EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom told the EU parliament in Strasbourg yesterday that, while Brussels would seek exemption from planned US tariffs on imports of steel and aluminium, it will also prepare countermeasures to hit US exports.
She accused President Donald Trump of undermining longstanding transatlantic ties.
Mr Trump has said that the import tariffs are necessary on national security grounds, but Ms Malmstrom insisted this is a ruse.
