South Korea: Anti-Park protests reach new heights
More people pour onto the streets despite worsening weather
DEMONSTRATIONS demanding South Korea President Park Geun Hye’s resignation reached new heights at the weekend, when hundreds of thousands of marchers took to the streets nationwide.
Organisers said that 1.5 million protested in Seoul and another 400,000 in other regions of the country. Police put the turnout in the capital at 270,000.
Despite cold weather and the first snow of the season, the crowd gathered in central Seoul to denounce Ms Park, who is accused by prosecutors of helping a friend commit extortion and faces the possibility of impeachment within weeks.
