Usdaw praises Ikea for living wage commitment

SHOPWORKERS’ union Usdaw has welcomed a commitment by furniture giant Ikea to pay the living wage.

The Swedish chain agreed to pay the living wage of at least £9.15 an hour in London and £7.85 in the rest of the country.

“Usdaw has been in discussions with Ikea about them becoming a living-wage employer,” said Usdaw national officer David Gill.

“So our members will be delighted to hear today that the company has brought forward their announcement of committing to pay the living wage.

“We now look forward to detailed discussions, and have meetings arranged over the coming months, about how that policy will be implemented.”
