Tube staff to vote on strike call over ‘dangerous’ cuts

TUBE workers are to vote on a call for fresh strikes over London Underground’s refusal to reverse mass job cuts and control-room closures which have allegedly compromised passenger safety, rail union RMT announced yesterday.

The union argues that Tube bosses’ decision to axe almost 900 jobs has left staff struggling to cope with the demands of running busy stations as commuting across the capital continues to rise.

More worryingly, the removal of staff from control rooms was recently blamed for an incident at Canning Town station where an evacuation descended into chaos after a woman’s leg became trapped between a train and the platform.
