South Korea: Park aides held in cronyism scandal
TWO former aides of South Korean President Park Geun Hye were arrested yesterday over her links to the daughter of the “Korean Rasputin.”
On Saturday up to 200,000 people — according to organisers — marched through the capital Seoul to demand the president’s resignation over the scandal.
Prosecutors arrested former senior secretary for policy co-ordination Ahn Jong Beom and Jung Ho Sung, another former aide. Mr Ahn is suspected of putting pressure on companies to make large donations to non-governmental organisations controlled by Ms Park’s close confidant Choi Soon Sil, court spokesman Shin Jae Hwan said.
