Room (15)
Directed by Lenny Abrahamson
4/5

IT MAY be harrowing to watch but this slow-burning and understated drama about child abduction and captivity packs an extraordinary emotional punch, due to the astonishing performances by Golden Globe winner Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay.

The film opens with Jack (Tremblay) waking up excitedly on his fifth birthday. His mother (Larson) lovingly makes a fuss of him as she gets him to exercise before offering to make him a birthday cake.
