Greece: Farmers tear-gassed by fearful police

FARMERS clashed with Greek police in Athens yesterday at the start of a two-day protest against EU-dictated tax rises and pension cuts.

About 800 farmers from the island of Crete, who arrived by overnight ferry, rallied outside the Agriculture Ministry, throwing tomatoes.
