Revolutionary feminist Margaret Skinnider (28 May 1892 – 10 October 1971) was born in Coatbridge, Scotland, to Irish parents. A Suffragette, the “schoolteacher turned sniper” fought during the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, was mentioned in dispatches for bravery and was wounded in action. She went on to become Paymaster General for the IRA and in later life a leading trade unionist in the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation. Her remarkable story is told in this play by Cat Hepburn, presented by Fairpley productions, with The Wakes and Arthur Johnstone also performing songs of struggle.

“It appears nothing has been gleaned from miscarriages of justice, especially those with political overtones. We live in an age where you can be subject to torture, while Ivy League-educated politicians play verbal gymnastics with the meaning of the word,” says Paul Hill. After the Guildford and Woolwich bombings, he and three others were arrested and jailed for 15 years for crimes they did not commit, their convictions based solely on confessions extracted during brutal interrogation. Your Ever Loving by Martin McNamara charts Hill’s fight to maintain his dignity and prove his innocence, as well as uncovering one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in British legal history. Recommended.
