South Korea: Hwang becomes third PM in a year

PARLIAMENT elected controversial former justice minister Hwang Kyo Ahn yesterday as South Korea’s third prime minister this year.

The National Assembly voted by 156 votes to 120 to approve president Park Geun Hye’s choice for the position, who would take over in case of the president’s incapacitation.

Mr Hwang replaces Lee Man Koo who resigned in April over allegations that he and other ministers took bribes from a businessman who had committed suicide weeks earlier.
