South Korean party banned for alleged pro-Pyongyang views

SOUTH Korea’s constitutional court ordered the dissolution of a small left-wing party today in response to allegations that it held pro-North Korea views.

The Justice Ministry petitioned the court to disband the Unified Progressive Party (UPP), accusing it of supporting North Korea-style socialist systems and supposedly of posing a threat to South Korea.

Key party members were arrested two months ago for allegedly plotting a pro-Pyongyang rebellion to overthrow the Seoul government in the event of a war on the Korean Peninsula.
