A VIGIL for journalists killed in Gaza was due to be held outside Downing Street this evening after the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) delivered a letter demanding PM Sir Keir Starmer take action.

Members were to hold cards remembering more than 200 colleagues who are confirmed to have been killed in Gaza by Israeli military action and will read their names aloud as the Morning Star went to press.

Their letter, co-signed by other NUJ branches, urges the government to ensure that surviving Palestinian journalists in Gaza, alongside the rest of the population, have immediate safe access to food, water and necessary equipment.

It calls on non-Palestinian journalists to be allowed to enter Gaza to report alongside their Palestinian colleagues without being required to be “embedded” or otherwise under supervision.

And it demands that Sir Keir support an investigation by the International Criminal Court into “blatant targeting” of journalists and media workers by Israeli forces.
