Lords spent more than £100,000 on Champagne in Parliament this year
CRITICAL: SNP Pete Wishart MP

PEERS were accused of being “deeply out of touch” yesterday after it was revealed that they spent more than £100,000 on Champagne in Parliament bars this year.

The SNP slammed the Lords’ “champagne lifestyle,” claiming their drinking habits stood in stark contrast with households struggling in the face of the cost-of-living crisis.

A freedom of information request submitted by the SNP revealed that more than £100,000 was spent on 3,044 bottles of champagne, up £27,000 from the previous year.

Pete Wishart MP, the SNP deputy leader in Westminster, said: “As if it isn’t insulting enough to voters that unelected Lords can claim £371 per day just for showing up to work, these findings will have the public wondering where their lordships find the time to get any work done at all.

“Their champagne lifestyle suggests there’s certainly no cost-of-living crisis on the red benches.”
