CUTS to universal credit payments for people unable to work were pinned on Welsh Labour today by a Senedd Socialist Party candidate.
Ben Golightly is standing in Gwyr Abertawe (Swansea West & Gower) and is one of four Senedd candidates for the Welsh Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (Tusc).
Mr Golightly said the cut of £200 a month from new Universal Credit claims for those unable to work means the outgoing Welsh government has allowed Westminster to turn the clock back on disability rights.
“These cuts are biting now, and they were voted for by 25 out of 26 Welsh Labour MPs.
“It was not good enough for the First Minister, as leader of the Welsh Labour Party, to say ‘it’s up to them.’
“That inability to stand up to Keir Starmer undermines the outgoing Welsh government’s ambitions and achievements — like the Disability Rights Taskforce,” Mr Golightly said.
Welsh Labour was asked to comment.
