DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: World Health Organisation director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said today he was worried by the “scale and speed” of an outbreak of a rare Ebola variant in eastern Congo, where 131 people have died.

ITALY: A car-ramming and stabbing attack in the northern city of Modena by a citizen of Moroccan descent highlights the challenges of integration, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has said.

Eight people were wounded, four critically, in Saturday’s incident.

Mr Piantedosi said on Monday that investigators must fully examine the factors behind the attack, suggesting social marginalisation and perceived discrimination might have played a role.

NEW ZEALAND: The government will slash around 9,000 public-sector jobs (around 14 per cent of the total), by mid-2029 as part of a bid to slash spending, Finance Minister Nicola Willis said today.

She said her administration would also enact three consecutive years of budget cuts for most public agencies, “significantly reduce” the number of departments and demand faster uptake of AI technology across the sector.
