MEN’S TENNIS: 36-year-old Dan Evans, who was part of Britain’s 2015 Davis Cup-winning team, played his last professional singles match after losing 7-5, 6-0 to Australian Tristan Schoolkate in the qualifiers for this year’s Wimbledon tournament.
Evans reached a career-high ranking of 21 and won two ATP Tour events including the Washington Open in 2023. He will partner fellow Midlander Henry Searle in the doubles at Wimbledon.
MEN’S BOXING: Former super-flyweight world champion Joe Cordina has been forced to pull out of his challenge for Abdullah Mason’s WBO lightweight belt after being denied an entry visa to the US.
Cardiff-born Cordina, a European gold medallist who represented Britain at the 2016 Olympics, has lost only one of his 19 professional bouts, to Antony Cacace for the IBF/IBO super-featherweight title in May 2024.
MEN’S CRICKET: Northampton put the competition’s only 100 per cent record on the line when they host Essex as the T20 Blast resumes this evening.
