SIX COUNTIES: Firefighters dealt with more than 300 emergency calls as Eleventh Night bonfires were lit across the north of Ireland.
In Greenisland, Co Antrim, embers from a nearby bonfire likely caused a blaze that destroyed two houses, the fire service said, though this is still under investigation.
In Cookstown, Co Tyrone, firefighters were forced to withdraw from a bonfire as a result of a hostile crowd.
The bonfires are lit ahead of the Orange Order’s July 12 parades across the north on Monday.
CHINA: Typhoon Bavi weakened to a severe tropical storm after making landfall in Zhejiang province today, but was still bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the east.

Bavi passed north of Taiwan on Saturday but did not make a direct landfall. The island’s fire department said at least 134 people across the country were injured today.

SPAIN: Hundreds of firefighters struggled at the weekend to contain the wildfires that erupted last week, killing at least 12 people.
In Andalusia, a combination of light winds and high humidity are helping crews, but the sheer size of the fire still poses challenges, Antonio Sanz, head of the region’s emergency services, said on Saturday.
The blazes, which also lashed France this week, came as parts of western Europe are facing their third heat wave in six weeks.
