Southend striker Ranger charged with fraud

FORMER Premier League striker Nile Ranger has been charged with fraud and money laundering offences, the Metropolitan Police said yesterday.

The 25-year-old footballer is accused of conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to commit money-laundering in February last year.

The Met said the offences relate to the

obtaining of a vulnerable person’s bank account details by phone with a view to getting hold of their money.

Ranger was charged on Monday and was due to appear at Highbury Corner magistrates’ court yesterday.

The player, from north London, has previously played for Newcastle and England Under-19s, moving to join Southend this year.
