A “CATWALK of shame” was staged by protesters outside the headquarters of online fashion retailer Asos in London yesterday over the company’s shameful treatment of its employees.

Activists strutted down a red carpet ahead of Asos’s annual general meeting to draw attention to poor conditions at its distribution warehouse in Barnsley.

Damning reports from the warehouse include workers going without regular loo or water breaks and being forced to use water fountains to urinate.

General union GMB has been campaigning for over a year against the terrible conditions at Asos, which supplies goods to over 200 countries, and has seen profits double from £15.7 million to £30.3m.

Regional secretary Neil Derrick said: “Asos trumpets its claim to produce fashion with integrity — but they don’t seem so bothered about conditions in Barnsley.

“Fashions may change — but failing to treat your workers with respect is never a good look.”
