DIPLOMATS could face visa sanctions if their countries refuse to take back citizens deported from the European Union, EU migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos announced yesterday.
The bloc claims only half of asylum-seekers who have been denied visas are returned at present, blaming them for losing or destroying ID, which makes it difficult to establish nationality.
France, for example, insists angrily that Mali routinely refuses to accept people that Paris insists are its citizens.
