PERU: State officials, including former presidents who face prosecution in a major bribery case, began to undergo questioning yesterday.

More than 20 former government officials and executives of Brazilian construction company Odebracht were quizzed about the award of illegal contracts for monetary bribes over a 20-year period.

Among those facing prosecution are former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori and ex-president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who was impeached last year.

ALBANIA: Thousands of protesters clashed with police in the capital Tirana on Saturday as they attempted to storm the residence of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Mr Rama is accused of corruption linked to the construction of a highway around the capital, with calls for his resignation and new elections.

It was the largest demonstration seen in Albania for decades and opposition leaders called it “the protest that will bring down the government of thugs.”

SWEDEN: A student who took action in a bid to prevent the deportation of an Afghan migrant was fined 3,000 krona (£251) by a Copenhagen court yesterday.

Elin Ersson posted footage on social media last July showing her refusing to sit down and allow the flight to take off unless he was removed from the aircraft.

The migrant was not on board the plane, which was bound for Istanbul, Turkey, and has since been deported from Sweden.
