LABOUR pledged yesterday to hold a debate in the House of Commons in the coming weeks as part of its Justice for the Coalfields campaign.
On the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Orgreave, the party repeated Ed Miliband’s recent call for an investigation into the brutal police attack on striking miners.
Labour also said it will press for the publication of all communications between the government and the police at the time of the 1984-5 miners’ strike.
Shadow cabinet officer minister Michael Dugher, who is leading the campaign, said papers released under the 30-year rule “confirm how badly ministers treated the coalfield communities.”
