JURGEN KLOPP said that teenager Curtis Jones is “100 per cent” on course to play in the Liverpool first team in future, after his wonder goal sent the Reds into the FA Cup fourth round against Everton on Sunday.

The Scouse 18-year-old put in an impressive display and capped it off with a strike into the top corner of Jordan Pickford’s goal to decide the tie.

“He’s an unbelievable player, Scouser, very confident, can’t wait to play in the first team,” the Liverpool manager said after the game.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti selected a strong lineup, but it was unable to defeat Liverpool’s second string — further weakened by an injury to the experienced James Milner early in the match.

“I saw a sensationally good performance from an inexperienced team,” said Klopp.

“For a lot of players, it was the first time playing on this kind of stage, in front of this crowd, against this opponent.

“It was outstanding, I loved it. I loved each second of this game.”

Everton had a number of chances in the first half but shots from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mason Holgate and Richarlison could only find Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian, who was well-positioned on each occasion.

The Toffees have not beaten Liverpool at Anfield in 23 games. When the lineups were issued, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to do so, but they couldn’t take their chances.

Adam Lallana and Pedro Chirivella impressed in midfield for the Reds, while right-back Neco Williams and the more experienced Joe Gomez stood out in the back four. But Jones stole the show with his strike at the Anfield Road end — in front of the Everton fans — with 20 minutes to go.

Klopp said of Jones: “I’ve known him for three-and-a-half years; he’s made big steps and will be a Liverpool player if nothing strange happens, 100 per cent. 

“That he scores this kind of goal: I’m not surprised.”
