CORONAVIRUS has had a disproportionate impact on disabled workers’ mental health, according to Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) research.
The study of more than 1,000 workers found the coronavirus crisis has exacerbated a pre-existing lack of trust in bosses when it comes to disclosing mental health conditions.
The STUC also found that most people do not feel supported by their employer when disclosing poor mental health, with 67 per cent of people who have disclosed an issue or illness having been offered no form of adjustment.
STUC general secretary Roz Foyer said: “Employers should take heed of this. A crisis of trust between workers and managers could result in long-term damaging impacts to a workplace and its workers.
“Employers need to understand that workers’ mental health is as important as their physical health, and must be treated as such.”
