Tensions high, but ‘uphill’ peace talks will open on Friday

PEACE talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups will begin later this week, UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura announced yesterday.

He will send out invitations today to the talks in Geneva, which will start on Friday and are expected to take six months.
