Treasury’s cuts call ‘means 25,000 job losses’

TREASURY demands for cutbacks represent 25,000 Civil Service job losses, the PCS union warned yesterday.

The Treasury was accused of “sneaking out an announcement” on Monday night after asking government departments to submit plans for savings of up to 6 per cent to meet the £3.5 billion cuts announced in George Osborne’s 2016 Budget.

PCS has demanded Chancellor Philip Hammond reverse the cuts in next week’s Budget, warning that 25,000 jobs are at risk.
