Rights observers wanted
THE COUNCIL of Europe called on Turkey yesterday to allow independent observers into the south-eastern city of Cizre.
Human rights commissioner Nils Muiznieks said expressed concern about allegations of “disproportionate use of force” against civilians.
The city’s mainly Kurdish population has been under curfew since September 4 as the army searches for Kurdistan Workers’ Party guerillas.
