Pianist Kenny Barron, born in Philadelphia in 1943 and bassist Dave Holland, born in Wolverhampton in 1946, had been mutual admirers and sonic partners ever since 1985 when they first recorded together for Barron’s trio album Scratch.

In 2012 they played as a duo at the Cite de la Musique in Paris which prompted a New York studio session and the creation of The Art of Conversation.
