Train drivers win four-day week

TRAIN drivers in northern England have won a four-day week which will release work to create new jobs for drivers made redundant through steel and coal industry closures.

Their union Aslef negotiated the deal hours before drivers at TransPennine Express were due to strike at midnight last night.

The deal has still to be ratified by Aslef’s 400-plus TransPennine members.
