My Scandinavian Blues: A Tribute to Horace Parlan
(Stunt)

HORACE PARLAN’S long life in jazz has been an epochal one. Born in Pittsburgh in 1930, he was stricken by polio as a child.

His right hand was crippled but, inspired by piano giants like Bud Powell and Ahmad Jamal, he turned his disability to astonishing sonic advantage, creating a unique block chord technique blended with sprinkling phrases of ever-surprising notes through his left hand.
