Turkey: Ankara accuses European Union of supporting military coup attempt

TURKISH Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused the European Union yesterday of supporting last month’s failed military coup.

Mr Cavusoglu’s made the sensational allegation as he announced a delegation of Foreign Ministry, military and intelligence officials were heading to Russia for talks on the West’s backing for Syrian rebels.

He claimed that the Turkish people’s confidence in the EU had “unfortunately fallen” in the wake of the coup, adding that the bloc had “failed a test” on the night of the putsch.
