THE shadow chancellor outlined plans yesterday that Labour will put in motion if it kicks the Tories out of office at the next general election.
John McDonnell said that, within its first 100 days in government, the party would scrap the hated Trade Union Act that has limited workers’ rights to strike, an announcement that was met with a huge round of applause.
He told delegates of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) conference that Labour is committed to seeing trade unionists’ rights fully reinstated.
Apart from a bright spark of hope in the victory of the Gaza motion, this year’s conference lacked vision and purpose — we need to urgently reconnect Labour with its roots rather than weakly aping the flag-waving right, argues KIM JOHNSON MP
