Turkey: PKK ‘behind deadly checkpoint attack’
Two gunmen, officer and court worker killed

TWO GUNMEN were killed yesterday in an attack on a police checkpoint in the Turkish city of Izmir that also left an officer and a court worker dead.

Three attackers opened fire on the checkpoint in the Bayrakli district before detonating a car bomb and fleeing. Two of them were killed by police while a third was reportedly still on the run.

Provincial Governor Erol Ayyildiz said “six or seven” other people were injured in the attack, which he blamed on the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
