‘Sleepless nights’ after Benab-bad choice

Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad was unable to sleep because of the “immense sadness” he felt at being stripped of the European 3,000 metres steeplechase crown for removing his vest and putting it in his mouth.

The controversial 29-year-old has made headlines for the wrong reasons in the recent past, having fought with a teammate on the track and attacked a mascot.
