Arabs condemn UN electing Israel to chair law committee

PALESTINIAN and Arab leaders condemned the United Nations’ election of Israel to chair the world body’s international law committee on Monday.

The 193-member UN general assembly in New York cast 109 votes in favour of Israel’s chairing the sixth committee, with 23 abstentions, 14 invalid ballots and 43 votes for other countries.

“This is a historic achievement for Israel,” said the country’s UN ambassador Danny Danon.
