Minister quits over train doors failure
Perry goes as privateer GTR clashes with unions on job roles

A MINISTER who has quit the government “paid the price” for Tory failures to resolve the dispute involving rail privateer Southern that has caused the cancellation of more than 300 services a day, train drivers’ union Aslef said yesterday.

Former parliamentary under-secretary of state for transport Claire Perry has become the first to resign since new Prime Minister Theresa May took the helm, even though she had told MPs she did not believe the travel chaos would be solved by her leaving.

The current situation “feels like a failure,” she had said before announcing her resignation, having also admitted that she had “repeatedly” considered giving up her position.
