While A-level students celebrate results, undergrads ponder a lifetime of debt

TEACHING unions called on the government yesterday to reverse the cuts to vital higher education (HE) grants to encourage poorer pupils to apply for university.
The call came as at least 424,000 pupils secured a university offer after getting their A-level results — a 3 per cent increase compared with last year’s figures, according to admissions body Ucas.
